[Sounds of rain falling]

Weston: Boy meets girl, boy asks girl out, boy gets girl. The end. Sometimes it feels like this is the only relationship story I have ever heard. But what about all the other types of relationships that are happening out there? What about all the people for whom this narrative just doesn’t seem to fit? What about the gays, the lesbians, bisexuals, pansexuals, asexuals, trans, gender fluid queers?

[Up-beat, low-fi electronic music swells]

Weston: What about their relationship stories?

Weston: So tell us, how did you meet?

Justin: How did the two of you meet?

Nikki: Alright, alright...how did you meet?

Seth: How’d you meet?

Nikki: We got to know...how did you meet?

Weston: How did you meet?

Justin: So we’re all excited to hear: how did you meet?

Seth: Okay, alright...but how did you meet?

Weston: These are our stories, stories no one else can tell.

Steven: I think, like, right away, it was like, some kind of chemistry.

M: [laughs] When we first met, I like, thought you were mean.

Keila: We met in Miss. Bartunick’s history class!

Justin: We ended up going to an after party, afterwards. After party kinda sorta turned into an orgy [lauggs].

Keila: And I just look at him and I’m just already over it.

Jacob: One of the first things we did is we went to your and James’ apartment and we played, like, this Jenga game where we wrote really dirty, like nasty stuff on jenga blocks.

Doug: uh, we first met sort of at the…..the worst part of HIV.

Weston: These are stories of love, of friendship, and of finding each other.

Nikki: There’s something really powerful about being in a group of people who you know understand you at, like, a core level, at an identity level, where you don’t have to explain it….

Jacob: It’s hard to come by someone you could literally trust your life with, and that’s how I feel about Nakoa, so...

Nakoa: Awh, I love you booboo.

Jacob: Yeah, I love you booboo, you know? Yeah.

Malcolm: [Laughs] I love you man…..I really do.

[Music crescendos swell]

Weston: This is Queer Meets Queer: LGBTQ+ Relationship Stories, Starting October, 2020.
